Literature Text

"over here, quick, don't get eaten" the person shouted again from the abandoned store, the boy ran all-out toward the shop as the creature looked up and growled, and started in a slow run toward the boy, speeding up as it advanced menacingly toward the running child, roaring once more, it grabbed a nearby bin and threw it at the teen, garbage flew out, scattering along the road as it made its fast paced trip towards the boy and him on the shoulder.
The boy was bowled over, moldy food and discarded cigarette were slipping off his body and hair as he stood up slowly.

Looking up, the boy saw the huge abomination towering above him, and although it had no lips or visible mouth, he knew it was smiling with glee. Slowly, but surely, the thing reached down slowly, it's horrible rotten fingers outstretched, one of which was threatening to fall off, and was hanging by a thread, and grabbed the teenagers head, and started squeezing.

The boy started to scream as his face was crushed by the long fingers of the creature,
gripping his head with an iron grip, with the smell of rotten flesh seeped into the teen's nose and he gagged into the hand of the monster, then from the scent of the creature so close to his mouth that he vomited, sick covering the hand of it.

The boy looked up, and through the fingers of the thing their eyes met, two eyes met seven eyes void of mercy, the child knew that the only reason the monster was letting him live was that it found it more enjoyable to kill him slowly.
The boy closed his eyes,
waiting for the final "snap" of his neck.
The sound that came next was not one he was expecting, instead of a "snap" there was a "bang".
He looked up and saw the monsters brains exposed to the world, shattered fragments of its skull littering it's head.
It looked down at the boy, pure hatred in its eyes, and started falling, letting the teen go as it died.

The boy hit the ground and got back up, and started hobbling away, not looking up.
Then he remembered something, the thing must have been killed by something, he looked up and saw the source of the helpful shouting, "don't get eaten?" said the boy in awe,
"it was helpful though" said the man who had been shouting, he was wearing a business suit, and was carrying a sawn-off shotgun in one hand,
held vertical to the ground.

"Doug" the man said as he helped up the boy from the ground "Doug canter-bell".
There was a long silence as the boy got up and looked around for present danger,
"and you are?" the man inquired further.
"Does it matter anymore?" said the teen grumpily,
"with what's happened its unlikely any of my family is alive. So I'm just Matt, nothing else, just Matt."
Matt gingerly touched his head where it hurt, and felt shallow scratches, letting blood seep into his hair.
He head was reeling and he didn't like the situation he was in, but he wasn't badly injured and things could have go a lot worse thought Matt to himself.

"well, come on then" Doug said irritably, "I saw you burn that big one, the others 'll be on the way now, best be inside for the night"
Doug kicked the head of the creature away as he left, picking his gun up from the bonnet of the car he had tested it on while helping Matt up.
"inside, inside, c'mon boy, it's all most time"
Matt looked up, and between the two decrepit buildings blocking the horizon, he could see the sun setting, fast.
"wait, what about the rat-crabs?" asked Matt, taking a sideways glance at the shop at which Doug was advancing to, "I switched the lights, they stay on all the time now, their wont be no crawlers here tonight"
Doug said gruffly, opening the door to the convenience store.
